Chocolate Kahlua Brownie Cake with Kahlua Chocolate Buttercream

 The Perfect Father’s Day Dessert

This chocolate cake is simply the most delicious, grown up cake you can make for Dad.  He has been there for you for everything, now it’s your turn to treat him to this incredible mountain of a cake.  Manly in both size and taste and decadently rich in texture, it is sure to perfectly top off your Father’s Day meal.

Since the cake has a homemade chocolate Kahlua buttercream frosting and each layer is bathed with a decadent butter Kahlua syrup, the instructions call for an easy to bake, delicious brownie cake as the vehicle for all the Kahlua chocolate decadence.

I am actually eating a piece as I am write to you.  Just picture it in your mind ... the Chocolate Goddess smiling as she takes a spoonful of chocolate Kahlua goodness :)

Ingredients for Brownie Cake

1 Box Betty Crocker Brownie Mix

1 Box Duncan Hines Fudge Cake Mix

4 Large Eggs (lightly whisked)

1 cup of Corn or Canola Oil

1 cup of Water

 Ingredients for Kahlua Butter Glaze

2 sticks of Butter

¼ cup of Water

1 cup of Granulated Sugar

½ cup of Kahlua

1 tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract

Ingredients for Kahlua Chocolate Buttercream

3 cups (6 sticks) of Butter

2 cups Unsweetened Cocoa

½ cup Kahlua

2 one pound boxes Powdered Sugar

1 tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract

Baking Instructions

Butter and flour, 3 eight inch baking pans.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Combine cake and brownie mix with oil, water and eggs.

Divide evenly in pans.

Bake for 30 – 33 minutes until toothpick comes out with a few crumbs on it, not wet but not completely clean.

Let cake cool 20 minutes on rack and then remove from pans and place on wire racks.

Place paper towels under each rack for easy clean up after basting.

Glaze Instructions

Combine water, butter and sugar.  Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until sugar is totally dissolved.

Remove from heat and stir in Kahlua and vanilla.

Poke holes in top of each cake layer.  Baste with the syrup.

Instructions for Chocolate Kahlua Buttercream

Bring butter to room temperature, let sit out for at least 30 minutes.

Beat until soft and creamy.

Gradually add powdered sugar, stirring on low.

Add Vanilla.

Add Kahlua slowly.  You may need a little more or less to make the right spreading consistency.

Frost between layers, on sides and on top with a recessed spatula.  Remember to save a bit extra for the top.
